We’ve gathered together some of the images and videos of the past activities of the Rotary Club of Bowen Island [RCBI]. Here you can see some of our history.

There was the Rotary Night Bus in the spring of 2011.

Our project to reward a young person who wrote an essay on how to improve Bowen Island kicked off the project to map and improve the trails on Mt. Gardner. It started by Rotarians accurately mapping all of the worthy trails up there and negotiating with the government officials at Recreation Sites and Trails for recognition of the Mt. Gardner polygon under Section 56 of the Forest and Range Act.

Since we began this initiative, the very capable Bowen Island Trains Society (BITS) has arisen and taken over the stewardship of the trails. RCBI still publishes the very popular trails guide.

When international disasters have caught the public’s imagination, and Rotary’s Shelterbox has been there, RCBI has set up an exhibit. Bowen Islander have been very generous in supporting this project

When Bawn Campbell decided to share his AED by mounting his in a box on a tree by his street, he realized that, because of the geography of Bowen, emergency services could not react quickly enough to save a victim of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, so he convinced RCBI to work with neighborhoods and the municipality to provide local AEDs

Matthew Harrison’s personal experience with an orphanage in Lesotho revealed need and a vision for a new facility in that very poor country. RCBI has held fundraising projects that have resulted in the beginning of construction of an orphanage-campus on 33 acres of land. This is a long-term continuing project.

Note, RCBI is a small participant in Rotary’s global program to eradicate polio from the face of the earth.

Rotarians have also marched in the Bowfest Parade and set up displays at Bowfest. There is more, but we are lacking visuals to illustrate.
