Bowen Island Playscapes

Courtni McGillivray, Lusungu Kayani and Kendra Patton formed The Bowen Island Playscapes Group in the Fall of 2020. They realized that our community was about to embark on yet another pandemic winter with not many safe play options for their children.

So, after much research, community feedback, meetings with the muni’s Parks and Recreation staff, and a couple council meetings, they have designed a beautiful new and improved park at the West Side Children’s Park at Arbutus Ridge in Blue Water.

The Group has since partnered with The Bowen Island Montessori which allows them to offer tax receipts for all donations. As of today they have raised almost $14,000.

While the existing park is a good start, they envision a much more vibrant park for our Bowen Island community. They will follow the natural wood scheme that is already in place and add some more usable equipment including:

• 2 sets of swings,
• a Tall Tower Slide and
• more Step & Balance parkour.

Seating will be expanded to make the space more inclusive for all ages and abilities.

There is nothing like this on Bowen Island and The Bowen Island Playscapes Group know that the community will enjoy it for decades to come.
