The underwater realm of Atl’ka7tsem / Howe Sound

About the Speaker
- Adam Taylor is a 4th generation resident of Bowen Island. His family have been homesteading here since 1895. The ocean and its creatures have always held a special fascination for him. From beach-combing and fishing as a child to boating and diving later in life most of his favourite memories and activities involve the ocean.
  
  Certified as a diver in 1992, the majority of his dives have been in British Columbia waters with a few visits to warmer locales over the years; Hawaii, Bonaire, Cozumel, Cuba and Kenya.
  
  Adam has been a Director of the Underwater Council of British Columbia Society (UCBC) since 2002, and is the current President. His special interest is seeing that the Underwater Council of BC continues to focus on its core mandate while also working on common goals with other dive and marine conservation organizations.
  
  A community-minded upbringing on Bowen led to sharing his passion for the ocean using underwater images, along with projects like installation of divers' mooring buoys, underwater cleanups, and the annual Nature Dive. In more recent years he has focused on Marine Conservation causes including the discovery, documentation and protection of Glass Sponge Reefs in Howe Sound. He has performed numerous beach interpretations for local schools, CNIB Camp for the Blind as well as Underwater Cleanups.
  
  Underwater photography is his latest passion, and one of the ways he hopes to share our underwater world with non-divers so they can understand why we care about our local waters as much as we do.
  
  Currently Adam is taking time off to care for his elderly father. Adam's day job is Project Management of Land Development, Park and Public Space projects.

Adam Taylor used his own video to provide an in depth account of the amazing underwater world that surrounds Bowen Island. Adam knows the ocean floor of Átl’ka7tsem / Howe Sound as well as most of us know our own garden. He has had first-hand experience with the transformation of aquatic life in Howe Sound over the years. His great love is to share the wonders of the variety of life that lurks beneath the waves all around us. One of his passions is working to protect and nurture the environment that he knows and loves.
