We are proud to announce that this year, the Rotary Run for Rwanda is reaching its sixth birthday.
In 2011 Bowen Rotary took over the well known Run for the Ferry on Bowen Island, as previous organisers were unwilling to take on the work for another year.
We have a 10K run, a 5K run/walk and a 1.K run for children. The run takes place in the morning of Bowfest Day. Bowfest is a Bowen Island festival that traditionally takes place on the Saturday preceding the Labour Day long weekend. Our run starts at 8:30 am for children and 9:00 am for all others, so that all is done before the Bowfest parade. We pride ourselves on having the best viewing spot for the parade, and often left-over treats from the run are available for the public!
All the runs start on the municipal dock adjacent to the ferry terminal and end at the public library lawn just up the road. This is principally a trail run with a very short section on a quiet road.
We delighted that number of sponsors provide financial support, prizes, treats and water. Sponsors’ logos are published on the website rotaryrunforrwanda.com, are also represented on the run poster and are to be seen on the sponsors board on the day of the run.
All proceeds from the run go to Komera Canada, a Canadian registered charity, that supports the education of girls in rural Rwanda. Please check out the website www.komeracanada.ca for information on this worthy charity.
